The Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar

Five proven benefits of apple cider vinegar

Whether it be raw, added to a drink or in supplement form, consuming apple cider vinegar became a wellness trend a few years ago. Contrary to many other trends, which quickly become fads, apple cider vinegar is actually an ingredient that has many benefits for the body. Here are five of them, which can be used as home remedies.

Gut health

Apple cider vinegar is fermented juice made from apples. It is a natural antimicrobial and probiotic, so it helps kill bad bacteria in the stomach while providing the gut with healthy bacteria.

Helps to lower blood sugar levels

While you should never replace medication with a natural remedy, research has shown that apple cider vinegar can have a positive impact on Type 2 diabetes patients. In fact, vinegar in general can improve insulin sensitivity during a high-carbohydrate or high-sugar meal and lower blood sugar levels.

Hair health

Apple cider vinegar is rich in two of the hair’s most needed nutrients: Biotin and acetic acid. Biotin is responsible for promoting strong hair and reducing hair fall. Acetic acid has antimicrobial effects that help to decrease the amount of bacteria and yeast found on the scalp and hair, which can lead to dandruff and other scalp conditions.

Has anti-aging properties

Due to its high amount of vitamin C, apple cider vinegar can help delay and even reverse signs of aging. Vitamin C helps to protect cells and fight against free radical damage. Chemicals, pollution and UV radiation are all free radicals. Vitamin C is responsible for neutralizing free radicals and slowing the aging process down.

Boosts ability to process food

Apple cider vinegar effectively aids in the absorption of vitamins and minerals from food  consumed. The acetic acid in apple cider vinegar helps the body effectively absorb key vitamins and minerals, including calcium, potassium and iron.

Besides these five benefits, apple cider vinegar can be consumed while fasting, if measured carefully. One to two tablespoons, diluted in water, has under 10 calories, and can maximize digestion and help gut health when consumed on an empty stomach. Ensure you use a good quality apple cider vinegar, with the "mother", which is responsible for the good bacteria and is gut-friendly.
