10 Key Facts About Circadian Fasting, Pt. 2

A second part of the series, 10 Key Facts About Circadian Fasting

The world is waking up to the benefits of fasting. Circadian fasting, which means fasting according to the circadian rhythms of our bodies has been established as the most effective form of fasting, by me along with several other experts and studies. If done right, it can completely change your health and overall well-being. To delve deep into circadian rhythms and their importance, order my book, I’m So Effing Tired, available here!

Here is my next list of the top 10 facts about circadian fasting, which will help you change your lifestyle and practice healthy living.

Fact #1: Circadian fasting is not synonymous with intermittent fasting. It is a less extreme version of the intermittent fasting style. It is fasting in sync with circadian rhythms, which involves waking, eating and living in accordance with the Sun.

Fact #2: There is a popular misconception that to practice circadian fasting you have to skip breakfast. This is completely untrue. Circadian fasting entails eating according to the circadian cycle of the body. It does not mean you have to skip breakfast. In fact, circadian fasting encourages a larger breakfast.

Fact #3: By practicing circadian fasting, we give our body a break between meals. This allows our systems to rest and ensures better functioning.

Fact #4: Good gut bacteria are in sync with our body’s circadian rhythms, which makes them more active or less active depending on the time of the day. Circadian fasting maintains the bacteria and provides them with the best conditions to flourish.

Fact #5: Circadian fasting is not only for gut health. It balances hormones and the immune system as well. This balance boosts our energy levels and makes us feel better by resolving our health issues.

Fact #6: Circadian fasting is not just about the timing of meals. What you eat is equally important. To get the best results out of circadian fasting, cut out processed foods from your diet, reduce your sugar intake, and add vegetables to your diet. Adding more plant fibre will help to improve your health.

Fact #7: You can improve your sleep cycle by paying attention to your circadian clock. Since the circadian cycle is based on the sun cycle, light has a huge impact on our circadian cycle.  Ensure that you get ample morning sunlight for at least 20-40 minutes. The sunlight tells your brain that it's daytime, kickstarting your metabolism early and helping you sleep better at night. Turn off or dim all the lights before sleeping.

Fact #8: To optimize circadian rhythms of the body, try to get the morning sunlight before 10 am without sunglasses. Daily dose of morning sunlight helps in strengthening the connection between your brain and hormones. This connection is crucial for overall well-being.

Fact #9: Premature aging, cancer, metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular dysfunction, immune/hormone dysregulation, weight gain and mood disorders are all caused by circadian rhythm disruption. You can cure all of these with the help of circadian fasting.

Fact #10: Circadian fasting optimizes your circadian rhythms. This leads to more energy, healthy skin, better mood, good digestion and fewer chronic diseases.
