3 Healthy Cocktails that Won't Spike Your Blood Sugar

3 Healthy Cocktails that Won't Spike Your Blood Sugar

Try these healthy cocktail recipes, which help to stabilize sugar levels

Many people love a cocktail, but the fact is, they are normally full of sugar. Since most cocktails contain sugar or processed sugary mixers, I have found three healthy cocktail recipes that will ensure a minimum increase in sugar levels without compromising on flavor. Just remember, I recommend sticking to one cocktail, 1-2 times per week, maximum and always consume with a bit of protein and fiber.

Dry Lemon Martini

A great option for a healthy cocktail is a dry martini. This cocktail consists of no added sugars as no cocktail mixers are used to sweeten the taste. The alcohols used in this cocktail also have lower carb content, making it a better option for people trying to reduce sugar intake in their drinks, but in moderation. The splash of lemon adds a bit of antioxidants.

Ingredients

  • 5 ounces dry vermouth
  • 2 ½ ounces of gin
  • 3 green olives
  • 1/4 lemon
  • Ice as needed

Instructions

  • Add ice, dry vermouth and gin in a glass and stir for about 20-30 seconds.
  • Now strain the mixture in a martini glass and serve this popular cocktail with olives.
  • Spritz fresh lemon juice into the glass.

Mint Berry Mojito

Healthy mojito

Who doesn’t love a mojito, right? Well, the problem with mojitos are that they are made with high-sugar soft drinks that lead to an instant spike in your blood sugar levels. But with the following recipe, you can enjoy a mojito anytime, while keeping your sugar levels at permissible levels, of course in moderation.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ ounces rum
  • 8-10 mint leaves
  • 5-10 drops of stevia or 1 packet of powdered stevia
  • Ice
  • Soda water
  • Mint, lime and your favorite berries
  • ½ lime juice

Instructions

  • Take a cocktail shaker and mix stevia, lime juice, berries and mint leaves. Muddle them.
  • Mix it with rum and shake well.
  • Take a highball glass filled with ice and pour the mixture into it. Add some soda water.
  • Add mint and lime garnishings and your yummy mojito is ready to be served.

Old-Fashioned

healthy old-fashioned drink

If you love whiskey but are always worried about the carbs spiking your sugar levels, I have good news for you—whiskey is not necessarily the problem when enjoyed in moderation; it's the mixers. An Old-Fashioned is made using sugar and that can quickly lead to higher sugar levels. Here’s an alternative, yet delicious recipe for this cocktail that you can enjoy worry-free.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ ounces whiskey
  • 1 ½-inch pieces of orange peel
  • Splash of water
  • 2 drops liquid stevia
  • 2 dashes bitters
  • Orange slice
  • Ice

Instructions

  • Take a rocks glass and mix orange peel, stevia, and bitters.
  • Add whiskey, water, orange and ice. Stir and enjoy!

Make sure you relish these delicious healthy cocktails with some healthy snacks and meal options so your overall health remains unaffected. Avoid drinking on an empty stomach for easier alcohol digestion and preventing any complications.
